FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How often should I have my furnace or air conditioner serviced? The manufacturer recommends once a year.  This will keep the equipment working as efficient as the day it was installed and will extend its life.
  • Do you have a maintenance program? Yes. See the Gold plan tab for details.
  • Does it cost extra to have my furnace or air conditioner serviced in an evening, weekend or holiday? Not if you are on a Gold Maintenance Plan.
  • How often do I need to change my filter? A standard throwaway filter is typically OK for 1 month.  The 5” wide media style is good typically for 1 year.
  • Do I need a humidifier? If you experience static electricity, dry sinuses, or see the wood in your house shrinking then yes.
  • How often do I need to change the pad on my humidifier? Every fall and it needs serviced or the hard water over the year probably will keep it from working.
  • Should I sometimes see ice building up on my heat pump? Frost/light ice is normal but it should melt away each defrost cycle.
  • Should I turn off my heat pump when it gets really cold outside? No. No matter what temperature it is outside the heat pump is still more efficient than electric heat.
  • Why does the heat from my heat pump feel cold? Typically a heat pump blows out the registers around 92 degrees. Since our body temperature is 98.6, 92 degrees feels cooler.
  • Should I turn off my air conditioner at night and open the windows when it cools down? No. When you do this you are bringing in humid air from the outside and this will make the air conditioner run more in the long run.
  • My air conditioner seems to run nonstop when it is really hot outside. Should it do this? A properly sized air conditioner will keep your home 15 to 20 cooler than the outside on a 92 degree day. If it is above 92 degrees it will run constantly if it is sized properly.
